We have an excellent school system (with a college 30 minutes away), an ample supply of pure water, an ideal climate, and are often referred to as "the town of churches." Services and facilities include weekly newspapers,
fraternity lodges, motels, banks, savings & loans companies, a fine shopping center, a radio station, and many businesses and retail stores.
In case of medical need, residents are well cared for by a hospital, county medical center, a nearby Veterans hospital, and a retirement home for elderly.
Business and industry is widely varied. We have several automobile agencies, a plastic factory, machine shop, saw mills, lumber markets, a dry-cleaning plant, and other firms that offer
both service and employment. A fine network of highways serve the needs of our business community.
Agriculture is well serviced by farm equipment agencies and produce markets. The area soils are mostly black and brown lime silt with a clay subsoil, and will produce any crop that can grow
outside the tropics. Thriving crops are corn, cotton, barley, rye, soybeans, wheat, oats, cowpeas, alfalfa, clover, lespedeza, tame grasses, cantaloupes, watermelons, fruits, berries, and all kinds of
vegetables. Mild winters and pleasant summers furnish about 220 growing days and 50 inches of rainfall each year. This, together with the rich soil and plenty of water, makes Ripley County on the
best sections of Missouri for diversified farming.
Recreation knows no bounds. Here are world-renowned streams, some of the best in the Ozarks. Many are the fishermen, both local and vacationing, who dream of casting a line once more in
the beautiful crystal-clear waters where lurks that elusive bass or catfish-the "granddaddy of them all." The Current River has made the area famous as the Float Fishing
Capital of the World. And of almost equal pleasure with fishing, floating, and canoeing is hunting. Our small game, turkey, and deer hunting is seldom excelled, and attracts people from all over the country.
In short, Doniphan is a lovely town, a place where you'll be proud and happy to bring your family to live. Come visit us soon-we'll be glad to see you!
